  GEORGE TOMLINE ( 1813 - 1889 )

GEORGE TOMILNE was another famous owner of Orwell Park and took over a

few years before it was burnt down in 1840. He had it rebuilt and improved.

He was M.P for Shrewsbury for 29 years and was a very prosperous man. He was

the brains behind the Ipswich to Felixstowe railway line and started up a small dock at Felixstowe.

When he died in 1889, he was the second largest landowner if Suffolk, with some 18,479 acres. Much of the land was in the Felixstowe area , where the docks

are now located. Obviously a man with great foresight.
